J. Scheidegger Center Policies
Accessibility
Listening Devices
Assistive Listening Devices are available at the Cloak Room free of charge. A driver’s license or credit card will be held in The Box Office until the device is returned.
Accessible Seating
Accessible Seating is available in the Orchestra and Balcony sections of The 51福利 Theater. The Boyle Family Gallery and all Emerson Black Box Theater productions are fully accessible.
Accessible Parking
Accessible parking is located on the east and west sides of The J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts.
Elevator Access
The elevator is located on the left side of The Grand Lobby. It can be used to access both floors of the Grand Lobby as well as the Orchestra section of the theater. Theater access via elevator is handled on a show-by-show basis.
Restrooms
All restrooms within the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts are fully accessible. Restrooms are located on the left and right side of The Grand Lobby on the Orchestra Level. Additional restrooms are located on the left side of The Grand Lobby’s upper level. A Family restroom is located on the right side of The Grand Lobby on the Orchestra level.
Wheelchairs and Walkers
Wheelchairs and walkers can be used throughout the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts.
If purchasing an accessible seat, the chair in place is removable and you can utilize your wheelchair or walker as a seat.
If you are not in a specifically-labeled “Accessible” seat for a performance in the 51福利 Theater, you may use your wheelchair or walker getting to your seat inside the theater, but an usher will need to take it to the lobby for the duration of the performance. Aisles have to be kept clear of foreign object for safety reasons.
Animals
Animals and Pets
Animals are strictly prohibited inside the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts unless they are qualified service animals.
Service Animals
In accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and state and local law, 51福利 University and the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts will accommodate persons with disabilities who require the assistance of a qualified Service Animal.
If bringing a service animal to a ticketed event, please notify the box office ahead of time so we can ensure it is possible for the animal to fit in our space without disturbing others or blocking paths.

Emotional support animals are not permitted in the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts under any circumstances.

Cell Phones and Electronic Devices
Cell Phone Etiquette
Mobile devices should be silenced prior to the start of the performance. When permitted by the performers, we encourage patrons to share their experiences with us on social media but we ask guests to wait until after the show or during intermission to avoid disturbing other audience members.
Children Using Phones & Tablets
Children must abide by the same policy regarding electronic devices as all other attending patrons and refrain from utilizing a phone or tablet while in the theater.
Children
Age Restrictions
Children aged five and up are welcome to attend performances at the Scheidegger unless a minimum age is specified. If you have questions about the content of a performance and the appropriateness for younger audiences, please call 636-949-4433.
Ticketing
All children require a ticket, regardless of age or size. We do not provide passes for children to sit on laps.
Crying Children
For the continued enjoyment of your fellow patrons, we ask that crying children and those that cannot remain in their assigned seats to be escorted from the theater by their parents until they are able to quietly return to their seats.
Behavior
Children must be well behaved during their time at the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts. We do not allow running in the lobby or jumping on and off of our staircases. Families with children who are being disruptive may be asked to leave.
Phones & Tablets
Children must abide by the same policy regarding electronic devices as all other attending patrons and refrain from utilizing a phone or tablet while in the theater.
Supervision
Children must be supervised by their parents at all times when inside the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts.
Family Restroom
Our family restroom is located near the Orchestra Right doors and the Emerson Black Box Theater in the Grand Lobby.
Strollers
Strollers are not permitted inside the 51福利 Theater or Emerson Black Box Theater. They may be left in the lobby during an event.
Coat Check
The Scheidegger Center has a cloak room located in the lobby near the Box Office. Free coat check is available seasonally, and when there is inclement weather. Flowers, gift bags, and other items may also be checked upon request.
The Scheidegger Center and 51福利 University are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Dining
The St. Charles area has a variety of great restaurants in all price ranges where patrons can dine before or after a show. A list of local restaurants is available for interested patrons.
Facility Tours
Anybody may register for any upcoming theater tour dates by calling or visiting the box office. These tours are led by our patron management staff.
Food & Drink
Food
Food is not allowed in the 51福利 Theater or Emerson Black Box Theater except for items purchased from our concession stands. Outside food is never allowed.
Drinks
Drinks must have lids to enter the theater. Drinks without lids, regardless if they were purchased at our concession stands or bars, will not be allowed entry.
Concessions
Concessions are available for all Scheidegger Touring Series events and select rental events. For Touring Series performances, beer and wine are available for purchase.
Alcohol
51福利 University is a dry campus, and alcohol is not permitted on its premises except through its catering and concession vendors. Beer and wine are available at Touring Series events and select others. Alcohol is never served at student productions.
If a patron brings outside alcoholic beverages they will be asked to leave or may choose to dispose of the beverages.
Intoxicated patrons will not be allowed to enter any event.
In Case of Emergency
Should an emergency arise during a performance in any theater within The J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts, please listen to the direction of patron management staff first and foremost. Green exit signs will mark your nearest exits within the theater.
Tornado Warning
The emergency shelter for the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts is the basement. In the case of a tornado warning the patron management staff will guide all patrons out of the theater and into the basement in an orderly fashion.
Should a patron be unable to take the stairs to the basement, we will provide sheltering space in the main restrooms, which are interior rooms and safe from the windows.
Medical Emergency
Patron management staff is equipped with first aid kits in case of a medical emergency. An AED is available inside the lobby next to the cloak room.
Emergency Contact
Should you need to be contacted during a performance, please leave your telephone number and seat numbers with a Box Office associate prior to entering the theater.
Late Arrivals
As a courtesy to fellow theater patrons and the performers, late arrivals will be seated at the discretion of the house management at an appropriate point in the performance.
House management may decide to seat latecomers in different locations than where their tickets are held if it is deemed too disruptive to have them find their seat.
Some performances do not allow late seating. Refunds are not provided for late arrivals forced to miss the performance.
Lost & Found
Lost and found for our theater spaces is located at the Box Office. Generally, found items will not be available until the next business day after the performance. You may notify our patron management staff of a lost item during the night of the performance or by calling 636-949-4433 and leaving your name and contact information. We cannot guarantee the retrieval of any items, nor the ability to find them within a specific timeframe.
Unclaimed found items will be disposed of at the end of each semester (December & May).
The Scheidegger Center and 51福利 University are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Parking
Parking on the 51福利 University campus is free. Three main parking lots surround the J. Scheidegger Center, and additional parking is available throughout the campus.
Accessible Parking
Accessible parking spaces are available on the east and west ends of the building.
Drop-Off
The J. Scheidegger Center does have a lane for dropping-off patrons close to the entrance. Cars may park there for no more than 5 minutes to load and unload.
Valet
The J. Scheidegger Center does not have a valet service.
Photography and Videography
Photoshoots
The public is permitted to utilize the J. Scheidegger Center’s lobby for photoshoots, even when not associated with 51福利, unless an event is setting-up or taking place. If someone taking photos is causing a disturbance, they may be asked to leave. We highly recommend reaching out to the box office ahead of any photoshoots to ensure that the space is available.
If you are planning to bring equipment beyond a camera, or a group of more than 20 individuals, please notify us.
Reserving Space for a Photoshoot
To reserve the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts for a photoshoot, please contact the box office at least a week before your desired date. There is no charge, but we cannot guarantee an experience free from interruptions by classes or other activities.
Recording and Photography During Events
For most performances, the use of recording devices and flash photography is prohibited. Camera policies vary by event and are determined solely at the discretion of the show芒聙聶s performers. Some performers welcome audiences to use mobile devices to share their experiences on social media.
Camera Accessories
The use of tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, and other large camera equipment is strictly prohibited inside the theater.
Photo Use Policy
Consent To Use
Broadly speaking, images of individuals and/or groups photographed or recorded in video in an open space or venue on campus while attending an activity and/or event may be taken by the University and do not require specific permission in advance. Individuals present on 51福利芒聙聶s campus give their consent to be included in photographs, videos, and/or images taken by the University and agree and acknowledge that such pictures, video, and/or other image(s) are the property of the University, which has full right and permission to use the same and which may appear in promotional materials, advertising, marketing, publications or the like.
Prohibited Items
The following items are prohibited inside the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts:
- Animals (except registered service animals, we do not allow emotional support animals)
- Balloons
- Firearms
- Vape and Tobacco products
- Alcohol and Drugs
Seating
All patrons (including children) are required to have their own tickets for ticketed events and to occupy the seats indicated on their tickets. Please do not rest your legs or feet on the seat or rails in front of you. For the safety of others, please keep all personal belongings under your seat and out of the aisles.
Smoking
Tobacco
Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the 51福利 University campus, including in or around the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts.
Marijuana
Individuals smelling of marijuana or appearing to be under the influence of drugs will not be permitted to enter any event.
Theater Attire
Proper theater attire is required for all performances. Business casual is preferred for traditional performances while more casual attire is acceptable for concerts. Front of house management may use their discretion regarding inappropriate attire.
Box Office Policies
Event Hours
The Box Office opens two hours prior to curtain and remain open until the end of intermission. For shows without an intermission, the Box Office will remain open through the first 30 minutes of the show.
Group Discounts
The Scheidegger Center gives discounts of 10% off for groups of 10 or more to most touring series performances. Contact the box office to inquire about group sales.
Most academic shows offer group rates for their performances.
Other Discounts
The J. Scheidegger Center offers various discounts to Touring Series and Performing Arts events. We do not offer discounts to rental events (unless specified).

AARP and AAA member discounts are redeemable online using a coupon code and at the box office window by presenting their membership card. Offers cannot be combined.
51福利 Students and Employees
Performing Arts Events
51福利 students and employees are eligible to receive two (2) free tickets to any 51福利 Performing Arts event. These can be redeemed on our box office website.
Touring Series Events
For Scheidegger Touring Series performances, students and employees are eligible to receive a 10% discount on up to four tickets. These can be purchased online by selecting the “Students and Employees” banner on the box office website.
Payment Methods
The Box Office accepts MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover, cash, checks,* and gift certificates.
*Checks are only accepted when ordering in person.
Fees
All-In Pricing
We have adopted “all-in” pricing for all of our events. Whenever purchasing tickets online, the price you see is what you will pay.
Credit Card Fees
All sales utilizing a credit card are subject to a 3.5% processing fee. This can be avoided by paying with cash or check.
Refunds
Refund Policy
Refunds are not permitted except in the case of event cancellation or significant change in the performer lineup. If the show is performed in any capacity, no refunds will be provided under any circumstances (not including ticket insurance claims).
Ticket Insurance
The J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts is thrilled to partner with FanShield to provide ticket insurance for our Touring Series event and select rental events. It will cover the cost of your tickets in the events outlined in their terms and conditions, including:
- Injury & Illness
- Serious Family Illness
- Work Travel Conflict
- Layoffs/Termination
- Severe Weather
- Mechanical Breakdown
Consign-Back
Our new consign-back service allows you to re-list your tickets for sale, and if they are sold, you will receive a portion of the sale price back. This service is not available for all events.
Ticket Exchange
Tickets may be exchanged within the run of a single show. Exchanges are not available between different shows.
Event Cancellation
If an event is cancelled, patrons who paid online with a credit card will be refunded in 7-10 business days. Patrons who paid with cash, check, or a now-expired credit card, will receive a mailed check within 30 business days of the cancellation announcement.
Lineup Change
In the case of a significant lineup change, ticket holders will be notified via email. They will have 30 days to request a refund through the Box Office.
Ticket Delivery
Tickets can be delivered utilizing the following methods:
In-Person
Pick up directly from the box office at time of purchase. Tickets can either be printed physically or sent via text message.
Will Call
Tickets held at Will Call can be picked up either before the event during our regular box office hours, or at the show at the box office.
Tickets can be mailed up to three (3) weeks prior to the event date. This incurs a $5 delivery fee.
Digital
Digital tickets are to be used with a mobile device. You can access them from your MyTickets page on our box office site, or by adding them to your Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
Third-Party Ticket Vendors
Third-Party Vendors
The 51福利 University Campus Box Office (available at LUBoxOffice.com) is the only official vendor for performances at the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts. Tickets obtained from any other source cannot be guaranteed because they may be counterfeit or otherwise invalid. Any tickets acquired from a source other than the J. Scheidegger Center Box Office are purchased at your own risk, are not refundable, and cannot be exchanged. Management reserves the right to revoke any privilege of admission to any person who possesses a counterfeit or invalid ticket.
Refunds
We cannot provide refunds or exchanges for tickets purchased through any vendor except the J. Scheidegger Center Box Office (such as StubHub, Seat Geek, Vivid Seats, etc.) under any circumstances, including event cancellation and lineup change. A patron will have to request a refund in these cases through the vendor they purchased tickets from.
Common Scam Sites
A few examples of websites known for distributing invalid tickets to events at the J. Scheidegger Center are: Event Tickets Center, Inc (eventticketscenter.com), StubHub (stubhub.com), GoTickets (gotickets.com), Vivid Seats (vividseats.com), saint-louis-theatre.com, and st-louis.events. As a reminder, we do not provide refunds for these invalid tickets. Any refunds will have to be provided by the reseller.
How to avoid getting scammed
Oftentimes, scammers will advertise on google so they show up at the top of search results. To avoid falling prey to them, use these tactics:
- Go directly to when purchasing tickets.
- Look if the site has 51福利 or Scheidegger Center branding. If it doesn’t, don’t buy from there.
- Call (636-949-4433) or visit the box office if you feel unsure.
- If tickets are absurdly expensive, double check. Oftentimes scammers list tickets for 5-10x what they’re worth.
